93c Venner Road, Sydenham, London SE26 5HU. 020 8659 7713 E-Mail A_Baron@ABaron.Demon.Co.UK December 31, 2000 Dear Sirs, In your latest issue you report on page 2 that “Knowledge is power, but in Britain, 98% of the media is controlled by just seven companies.” It is a pity then that as you are - or would have us believe you are - independent, you continue to parrot the same lies spewed out by the bulk of the other 98%. In particular on page 13 you claim that Mumia Abu-Jamal was framed, and that Satpal Ram killed his victim, Clarke Pearce, in self-defence. The transcript from the trial of Abu-Jamal has been available on the web for some time from http://www.danielfaulkner.com. Contemporary press reports are also available here. You might also read the book Race For Justice by Abu-Jamal's lawyer Leonard Weinglass critically; there is no evidence that Abu-Jamal is innocent, and overwhelming evidence that he is guilty. Whether or not he deserves the death penalty is an entirely different issue. As for Satpal Ram, he stabbed Clarke Pearce to death in an argument over music. Pearce was a 22 year old working man; the knifing was witnessed by his fiancee and his sister. I have spent the past three months and more investigating this case; even the at times blatantly dishonest propaganda churned out by the Ram campaign leads to no other conclusion that Ram is guilty of murder. Yours sincerely, A Baron
